NASA asks skywatchers to observe the Moon on September 19
The next International Observe the Moon Night falls on Saturday, September 19, 2026, and NASA says anyone on Earth can take part. The event lands each year in September or October, when the Moon sits near first quarter, a phase NASA calls ideal for evening viewing because shadows along the terminator, the line between lunar night and day, bring out craters across the surface. People can attend or host an event, in person or virtual, or watch from home. Those taking part can share what they see using #ObserveTheMoon on social media or through the event's Flickr group.
It gives anyone with a clear sky, no equipment required, a set night to look up and connect with other Moon watchers around the world.
