Rescue kitten takes first steps in Lego wheelchair
Rex, a 4-month-old kitten in Wilmington, North Carolina, is learning to walk for the first time. The rescue cat has cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological condition also known as "wobbly-cat syndrome." He has never been able to walk. Traditional wheelchairs cost around $1,800, and Rex would grow out of one in about a month and a half, according to Jennifer Witkowski of rescue group Miles To Go, who was cat-sitting Rex at the time. Michael Hawley, an employee at Bricks & Minifigs, a specialty Lego store in Wilmington, built Rex a custom wheelchair from Lego bricks.
Rescue animals with disabilities can move again with cheap, adjustable gear made from everyday materials.
