EverDye develops pigments that could cut fabric dyeing energy tenfold

Textile dyeing has changed little in decades, yet it is among the most environmentally damaging steps in fashion. EverDye, a materials science company, is developing bio-based pigments that rely on electrostatic attraction rather than the heat, water and chemical binders of conventional dyes. In an interview with MoveTheNeedle.news, the company said the approach could cut energy use by an order of magnitude on existing dyeing lines. Switching is the hard part. "Even when a solution is technically ready, aligning supply chains, quality standards, and production economics takes time," CEO Philippe Berlan said.
Dyehouses and the brands that buy from them could cut emissions without replacing their existing equipment.
