Assam teenager wins gold at National Karate Championship days after floods
Floods washed away the home of 17-year-old Janmoni Konwar in Assam, The Better India reports. Her family was forced to live under a tarpaulin. Part of the livelihood they hoped would fund her trip to Delhi was lost as well. Days later, the young karateka stepped onto the mat at the National Karate Championship. She came home with gold.
Young athletes from Assam families hit by the floods show that losing a home does not have to end a sporting dream.
