Assam teenager wins karate gold days after floods took her home
Janmoni Konwar, 17, lost her home to floods in Assam. Her family was forced to live under a tarpaulin, and part of the livelihood they had hoped would pay for her journey to Delhi was gone. Days later, the young karateka stepped onto the mat at the National Karate Championship. She won gold. According to The Better India, she returned home with the medal.
In flood-hit Assam, young athletes and their families are learning that a setback need not end a sporting dream.
