Assam teenager wins national karate gold days after floods destroyed home
Floods washed away the home of 17-year-old Janmoni Konwar in Assam. Her family had to live under a tarpaulin. They also lost part of the livelihood they hoped would pay for her trip to Delhi. Days later, according to The Better India, the young karateka stepped onto the mat at the National Karate Championship. She returned home with gold.
In flood-hit Assam, young athletes and their families can see that losing a home need not end a sporting dream.
