Webb telescope reveals 'Treasure Chest' inside the Carina Nebula
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope photographed a corner of the Carina Nebula on Aug. 6, 2026. The infrared image captures a feature astronomers call the 'Treasure Chest'. It is a cometary globule. That means a cloud of gas and dust with a dense, dark head and a long, sweeping tail. According to NASA, the object sits within the nebula's star-forming region, near the famous Cosmic Cliffs.
Skywatchers and astronomers get a rare, detailed view of how new stars take shape inside dense gas clouds.
