Visually impaired sailor Lorna Bacchus gets SVG into the top 10 in Portugal

Visually impaired sailor Lorna Bacchus and crew mate Scarlett Hadley raced for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at the World Sailing Inclusion Championships in Portimão, Portugal, this month. It was the first time the nation had been represented at the event. Three days of intensive race training came first, then six days of racing in light winds and strong tidal currents. In the final race, the pair finished in the top 10. Bacchus called the championship “challenging and empowering.”
Hadley said the pair hope their journey inspires others back home. The SVG Sailing Association called the result a historic milestone for Vincentian sailing.
