Seahorse portrait from Tahiti wins Ocean Photographer of the Year

French photographer Julien Anton won Ocean Photographer of the Year 2026 for a portrait of a male seahorse swimming with two juveniles off Tahiti and Mo’orea. The image first secured the Ocean Wildlife category before judges elevated it to the top prize presented by Oceanographic and Blancpain. Anton said the honour belongs to his family and the local residents, naturalists and fishermen of Tahiti and Mo’orea whose knowledge made the image possible.
The award draws attention to the local knowledge of Tahiti’s residents, naturalists and fishermen that enabled the striking seahorse portrait.
