At the annual Stillwater Harvest Fest along the St. Croix River in Minnesota, local farmer Charlie Bernstrom set a new state record on October 2, 2026, by presenting a championship pumpkin that tipped the certified scales at 2,560 pounds.

The colossal gourd was cultivated over five months using sustainable soil regeneration techniques, including composted clover cover crops and automated subterranean drip irrigation. During peak summer growth, the vine absorbed up to one hundred gallons of water daily, adding nearly fifty pounds every twenty-four hours under Bernstrom's watchful care in Lancaster Township.

Hundreds of families cheered as an industrial crane hoisted the giant pumpkin onto the judging platform. "You baby them from a seed the size of a thumbnail until you need heavy machinery to move them," Bernstrom said with a smile. "Seeing neighborhood children touch the rind in awe makes every early morning in the dirt worthwhile."

Following the autumn festival, seeds from the record-breaking pumpkin will be distributed to twenty rural high school agriculture programs and community youth gardens across Minnesota to inspire the next generation of soil scientists and young growers.

The record harvest inspired hundreds of rural families and provided prize-winning seeds to community school gardens.
