A cooperative network of thirty urban farms established on reclaimed vacant lots across Atlanta harvested fifty tons of fresh organic produce for neighborhood food pantries and community kitchens this season.

Organized by local neighborhood leaders, youth apprentices, and retired seniors, the urban farm network converted neglected city parcels into thriving agricultural hubs growing heirloom tomatoes, collard greens, sweet potatoes, and herbs without synthetic pesticides. Rainwater catchment systems and community composting piles provide free, sustainable inputs for the gardens.

In late September 2026, organizers confirmed that over five hundred families now receive free weekly farm boxes filled with nutritious fresh vegetables. "Turning abandoned lots into green gardens showed our kids that abundance can grow right in our own backyards," a community organizer reported. Apprentice farmers also host free weekend workshops on canning and healthy seasonal cooking.

The city council recently voted to grant permanent agricultural land leases to the urban farm cooperative, protecting the fertile urban green spaces from commercial redevelopment.
