Forks Lions trade firewood for thousands of pounds of produce

Forks Lions Club members delivered two log truckloads of firewood to Quincy, Washington, and returned with thousands of pounds of farm produce for the Forks Community Food Bank. The Oct. 16-20 trip continued a 45-year partnership with the Quincy Men’s Service Club and the Quincy community through the annual Firewood for Food Exchange.
Dave Crippen and Jeff Wilcox drove the loads, with Worley Trucking and Wilcox Trucking donating their trucks and time. Bryan Huber and M&R, and Luke Ostwald and Harbor Timber, donated the wood.
Forks Fiber and Hagen Logging cut, organized and loaded the wood at their respective operating sites before the trip. The Forks Lions Club said the exchange would not be possible without the local logging community.
Jerry’s Rentals, Sales and Services supplied its yearly donations of chains, fuel mix, bar oil, files and hearing protection. Forks Lions members and guests donated their weekend, trucks, chainsaws and trailers.
The Quincy Moose Lodge hosted the group, as it does each year, and Quincy Men’s Service Club volunteers helped with the exchange. The produce came from Quincy-area farms. The Forks Community Food Bank organized and distributed it throughout the community.
The exchange brings fresh produce to families throughout the West End through the Forks Community Food Bank, which serves Forks, Clallam Bay and surrounding communities and organizations.
