Dame Lesley Regan, a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with 42 years of experience in women's health, was named England's first Women's Health Ambassador on September 17. Her focus areas include miscarriage, period problems, gynaecological surgery and menopause. She will support delivery of the government's upcoming women's health strategy, which aims to close the gender health gap. "Women's health and care will be further improved," the government said of the historic appointment.

Women across England stand to gain from health services matched more closely to their needs at each stage of life.
