Endurance athlete once paralysed sets world record hosting free community runs

Endurance athlete Esmée Gummer received a Guinness World Record at Hyde Park in London on October 3. The 33-year-old from Essex earned the honour for hosting the most run clubs in different cities by an individual. Her 99-day challenge covered 5,000km across all 77 UK cities and Dublin. Every community run was free. A total of 6,684 participants joined her.
Gummer was paralysed from the waist down at 18. During The Nation's 5k challenge, she climbed 62,000 metres and covered the equivalent of 118 marathons.
At the Winchester stop, football commentator and broadcaster Clive Tyldesley provided commentary as runners crossed the finish line. Gummer described the Winchester event as a memorable celebration.
Participants who joined the free run clubs can claim an official certificate recognising their part in the record.
