Assam teen wins karate gold days after flood destroyed home
Janmoni Konwar's home in Assam was destroyed when floods swept through the region, forcing her family to live under a tarpaulin. The flood also wiped out part of the money they had saved for her trip to the National Karate Championship in Delhi. Days later, the 17 year old stepped onto the mat anyway. She won gold. Her family is still living under the tarpaulin, but the medal came home with her.
Janmoni's win gives her flood-hit family in Assam a moment of pride after losing part of their home and savings.
