Orphaned elephant calf found among zebras is rescued in Tsavo East
Tourists spotted a lone elephant calf in Tsavo East National Park, and on 4 November 2025 the Kenya Wildlife Service alerted the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Trevor, the trust's Tsavo Works Manager, led a search party. After more than an hour in dense bush, they found her tucked among a herd of zebras. She was crying and pacing. The trust says she has since been adopted by its resident flock of birds, one of many calves saved by what it calls "Misheck's magic", the care of one of its most gifted Keepers.
Rescuers and keepers in Kenya's Tsavo region give orphaned elephant calves a second chance, provided they reach them in time.
