A Florida Keys family found 64 sea turtle hatchlings in their backyard pool in Islamorada after the babies became disoriented by bright lights from the home. The homeowners contacted The Turtle Hospital, knowing the turtles would not survive in chlorinated water. All 64 hatchlings were rescued and taken to the facility, where staff cleaned them up and gave them nourishment. After spending several days recovering, the turtles were released into the ocean. They could be seen swimming away in the Gulf Stream.

Quick action by the homeowners and The Turtle Hospital turned an unexpected backyard discovery into a successful rescue, giving all 64 hatchlings a chance at survival in the wild.
