Student clinicians from the University of Wisconsin School of Dentistry and School of Nursing provided free comprehensive dental care to more than one thousand underserved residents across rural northern dairy counties.

Operating out of a customized mobile clinic van, the students traveled to remote farming towns where private dental practices are scarce and Medicaid acceptance is limited. Working under the supervision of licensed faculty dentists, the teams delivered urgent tooth extractions, composite fillings, fluoride treatments, and cleanings over a grueling six-week summer tour.

On October 1, 2026, clinic coordinators confirmed that the student-run operation delivered over five hundred thousand dollars in free clinical services. "Providing pain relief to hard-working farmers who went years without care is the greatest education possible," one fourth-year dental student noted. Multiple patients reported being relieved of chronic dental pain that had impaired their ability to work for months.

Encouraged by the program's success, the university foundation secured private donor funding to purchase a second mobile dental unit, doubling the clinical capacity for rural Wisconsin communities next year.

Rural farming families without dental insurance receive free essential oral healthcare from volunteer university student clinicians.
