Weston apprentice who left security wins CECA South West award

Keri Kennedy, an apprentice groundworker from Weston-super-Mare, was named most promising apprentice, up to level three, at the CECA South West awards in Torquay. Judges praised her rapid development and professionalism, and her positive attitude. Kennedy left a job in security to change careers while raising her son as a single parent. She started with a bootcamp, then a level two groundworks apprenticeship at Alun Griffiths Contractors Ltd in February 2026.
CECA South West chair Abie Hearn called her a rising star, proof that young people who work hard can build lasting careers in civil engineering construction.
