UMaine to build nine 3D-printed homes in Bangor area

Four years after unveiling the world’s first fully bio‑based 3D‑printed house, the University of Maine is expanding the effort with Penquis, a Maine nonprofit, to build up to nine homes in the Greater Bangor area. The $4 million project, secured by Sen. Susan Collins, will roll out in three stages, each informing the next. Habib Dagher, executive director of UMaine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center, said the team has already proven the concept and now aims to scale the process to produce homes faster and more efficiently, reaching higher volumes.
Families in Maine who lack adequate housing could receive up to nine new homes built more quickly, easing the shortage.
