A master acoustic piano technician from Chicago completed a three-thousand-mile summer road trip, restoring and tuning sixty neglected upright pianos in underfunded public school music classrooms for free.

Due to tightening educational arts budgets, many public school instruments had sat unplayable for decades with cracked bridges, sticking keys, and broken piano wire. Traveling in a camper loaded with specialized tuning levers, felts, and regulation tools, the technician visited schools across three Midwestern states, spending up to six hours on each piano to bring it back to concert pitch.

In late September 2026, music teachers in three states thanked him for reviving their choir, band, and elementary music programs. "He brought music back into our building when our budget could never have afforded a technician," a rural elementary principal stated. Students were thrilled to hear rich acoustic chords replace tinny electronic keyboards in their daily choir practice.

The technician announced plans to organize a volunteer guild of retired piano tuners to adopt underfunded school districts across the country next summer.

Public school music students regain beautifully tuned acoustic pianos for choir and orchestra classes without cost to underfunded arts budgets.
