Rainy River opens new K-12 school uniting elementary and high school students

On Thursday, October 8, 2026, students, staff, and local officials gathered outside the new Rainy River K-12 School in Rainy River, Ontario, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking its official opening. The new campus brings together the former Riverview Elementary School and Rainy River High School under one roof.
"This is a momentous occasion as we celebrate the inaugural year of our new Rainy River K-12 School," principal Michelle Van Beek said. "For many years, our community waited and dreamed about this moment, uniting the rich histories and proud traditions of Rainy River High School and Riverview Elementary School under one roof."
"Above all, this building is not for the teachers or for the staff. It belongs to our students, our parents, and our communities. Every single morning, we have students who travel long distances to get here," Van Beek said, adding that students deserve a space where they feel welcomed, celebrated, and accepted. Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford joined Mayor Deb Ewald and councillors to assist with the ribbon cutting.
