Metchosin firefighters rescue domestic goat from cliff-face ledge

On Sunday night, October 4, 2026, a domestic goat in Metchosin, British Columbia, tumbled over the edge of a cliff on its owner's property and spent the night stranded on a cliff-face ledge, unable to scramble back up on her own.
Metchosin Fire Department firefighters and trained rope rescue technicians were called to the property early Monday morning, October 5. Upon arriving, the rescue team assessed the steep terrain and devised a rope-rescue plan to retrieve the animal safely.
"The goat had spent the night below the cliff, and the priority was to safely secure and remove her without causing further injury," the Metchosin Fire Department said in a social media post. Crews descended the cliff face, reached the stranded goat, secured her, and lowered her to solid ground, where she was reunited with her relieved owner.
