Chris Dixon runs 940.06 kilometres on treadmill for Free 3D Hands

Stratford runner Chris Dixon covered 940.06 kilometres on a treadmill in seven days at H&C Fitness in Stratford, surpassing the previous world record of 912.22 kilometres, set in 2025, Lakes Post reported. His daughter Gracie, who was born with a limb difference, inspired the fundraising effort for Australian charity Free 3D Hands. Donations during the challenge were matched dollar-for-dollar up to $40,000 by The Phil Taylor Foundation.
Dixon began the attempt on October 10 and averaged more than 134 kilometres a day, equivalent to more than three full marathons every 24 hours, while managing sleep deprivation, fatigue and strict nutrition. He passed 900 kilometres by noon on day seven and broke the record around 1pm as a crowd cheered at the gym. His distance also exceeded the official Guinness World Record of 846 kilometres.
In five years, Dixon has progressed from completing his first marathon to earning a place on the Australian 24-hour track team. His past fundraising runs include 1000km from Sydney to Melbourne for TLC for Kids and 250km from Melbourne to Stratford for Lifeline Gippsland.
The treadmill challenge leads into the second annual Helping Hands Running Festival at Lake Guthridge in Sale, which raises further funds for Free 3D Hands and provides an inclusive space for participants with limb differences and disabilities. More than 200 runners have registered for 2026. Last year, 50 participants covered over 3000km and raised $80,000.
Participants can start at any point from 6am on Friday until 6pm on Saturday, completing distances or team relays around the 2.3km lake circuit. Food stalls, a sign-making booth and local live music are planned, with a children's run at 1pm on Saturday for the first 100 children.
Free 3D Hands designs, 3D prints and delivers hands and assistive devices free of charge to children and adults with limb differences.
