Twenty minutes of easy walking nearly doubled bowel sound intensity

Twenty minutes of easy walking appeared to switch the gut on almost at once, according to a study in Scientific Reports. The team at Fujita Health University listened to bowel sounds in 21 healthy young adults, using an electronic stethoscope while each person rested lying down. The sounds, which form as contractions move gas and liquid through the digestive tract, nearly doubled in intensity within minutes. That is a fast reaction. It may help explain why a short walk sometimes eases constipation.
People who struggle with constipation have a reason to try a short walk. The gut appears to respond within minutes.
