Flukler returns to the sea after rescue in Shetland

Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary rescued a common seal pup from St Ninian’s Isle beach in late June and released it back into the water after nearly three months. The pup, named Flukler after Fetlar’s mythical giant wizard, had been washed up on the beach. Staff waited several hours to see whether its mother would return, but she was nowhere to be found. As the tide came in and birds gathered, the team decided to lift the pup because the birds might have pecked its eyes out.
The rescue gave a lost seal pup care and returned it to the sea after its mother could not be found.
