Nairobi library revamp lifts visitor numbers 240 percent
Book Bunk partnered with Nairobi City County in 2018 to restore three public libraries: McMillan Memorial, Eastlands, and Kaloleni. Patronage at the sites has climbed by more than 240 percent since. More than 181,898 people have visited for heritage events and skills-based community programmes. Wanjiru Koinange, a writer, and Angela Wachuka, a publisher, founded the trust in 2017. "We believe art is a catalyst for social transformation," the trust said.
Nairobi has new spaces to read, learn practical skills, and preserve local heritage.
