Assam teenager wins national karate gold days after floods took her home
Janmoni Konwar, 17, won gold at the National Karate Championship days after floods washed away her family's home in Assam. The family was forced to live under a tarpaulin. They also lost part of the livelihood they had counted on to fund her trip to Delhi. She competed anyway. According to The Better India, the young karateka stepped onto the mat and returned home with the title.
In flood-hit Assam, young athletes are finding that losing a home does not have to end a sporting dream.
